2024 Hagimex Lychee Crop Summary

Lychee season has always held a special place at Hagimex, marked by immense enthusiasm and high expectations. Among our diverse product offerings, canned lychees stand out as one of our most prominent products, consistently generating significant export turnover. However, this year, Hagimex faced unprecedented challenges due to a substantial crop loss in Vietnam’s lychee harvest, making 2024 a difficult year for our lychee production.

The 2024 lychee season in Vietnam was severely impacted by unusual weather conditions. A late cold spell, combined with prolonged light rain, high soil moisture, and elevated air humidity, significantly reduced the flowering rate of lychee trees. As a result, the overall lychee harvest has decreased by more than 50% compared to last year. While early-season lychee varieties were less affected due to their lower cold requirements, the output of main-season lychees saw a steep decline. Consequently, Hagimex was only able to export nearly 1/4 of our original plan due to the scarcity of raw materials.

Despite these challenges, Hagimex remains committed to delivering quality lychee products to our global customers. This year, our lychee exports were primarily directed to Europe, accounting for 51% of our total exports, followed by the U.S. market with 43%, and the remaining percentage distributed across Asia and the domestic market. We continue to prioritize our customers' needs and work diligently to overcome the hurdles posed by this year's crop loss, ensuring that our products maintain the high standards that Hagimex is known for.
