Increasing by 3,500 VND/kg on April 23, domestic coffee continued to set a new purchasing price range, the highest being 128,000 VND/kg. While at the beginning of the year, it was only anchored at 70,000 VND/kg. On the world market, the price of Robusta coffee on ICE London also increased in delivery terms, to more than 4,100 USD/ton.

Mr. Pham Quang Anh - Director of Vietnam Commodity News Center said: "Mainly due to concerns about supply shortages, especially coffee or cocoa. Unfavorable weather can cause global output to decrease." Demand could be reduced by more than 10%, or even more."

Because world prices increased, although the amount of coffee exported in the first quarter only increased by 4.9%, turnover increased by more than 57%, bringing in more than 1.9 billion USD.

With durian, in the first quarter of this year, this fruit also brought in over 250 million USD, an increase of 66% over the same period in 2023. Good signals from exports have pushed durian purchasing prices to a high level, Sometimes it exceeds 200,000 VND/kg.

The crop is about to begin in May, so prices are falling, but many people believe that durian prices will increase sharply in the last months of the year, due to many favorable factors.

Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen - General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association commented: "2024 will be more favorable than 2023 due to increased output, expanded planting area, and nearly double the number of growing areas compared to 2023, which is 700. Second, the Ministry of Agriculture is negotiating to ask for permission to export frozen durian, if possible this year or the first half of this year, which is good news for the durian industry."

Experts say that prices of agricultural products will continue to remain high because demand on the world market is large, while global supply declines.

Mr. Pham Quang Anh - Director of Vietnam Commodity News Center shared: "Agricultural products are seasonal in nature and cannot be supplemented immediately. Therefore, even if there is no increase, I think that agricultural product prices will continue to be anchored in the high price range in the short and medium term.

That is in the short and medium term, but in the long term, increasing the value of agricultural products must still consider more sustainable options.

"Brand building will be an important factor to help us enhance the value of products. And promoting deep processing will be another factor that helps our agricultural products will only increase in volume, but also in value in the coming time" - said Mr. Tran Thanh Hai - Deputy Director of the Import-Export Department, Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Along with the rising prices of many agricultural products, exports of agricultural, forestry and fishery products are experiencing very positive growth momentum. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said that in the first 3 months of this year, the total export turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products was estimated at over 13.5 billion USD, up nearly 22% over the same period last year; trade surplus of 3.36 billion USD.
